Annual Conference & AGM (online) 2020

We were delighted with the turn-out for our Annual Conference and AGM 2020 which took place virtually via Zoom on Saturday, 17th October.

It was a great success with a presentation on “Teaching Lexico Grammar” by Gianfranco Conti as well as Bridie Higgins’ first address to the ATS in her new role as Chief Examiner.

We are currently preparing for an online workshop for Spring 2021 – dates to be confirmed.

Follow up from ATS Conference 2018

We had a fantastic event last Saturday in the Green Isle Hotel.

We would like to thank our attendees for coming.  We were delighted to have so many people there and we hope that you enjoyed the presentations and networking opportunities. Congratulations to all our raffle prize winners too!

We had some fantastic ideas about teaching listening and oral production from Gianfranco Conti and Ana Sánchez Pérez from Colegio Delibes spoke to us on how to use literature in the classroom.  There was a wealth of ideas and resources shared for us to adapt and use in the classroom.  Thank you to both our speakers for their contributions.

Check out all our tweets and photos from the day on  Twitter  #atsconference18, on our Facebook or if you are a member why not join our private Facebook Group (ats members only group)!

A reminder that Colegio Delibes are offering all ATS members, who haven’t already done so over the last 2 years, the opportunity to do a one week course for Spanish teachers next summer. The course, activities, accommodation and food are covered and all you have to pay for is your flights! Contact Alfredo Pérez if you are interested marketing@colegiodelibes.com.

We are looking to reschedule the North-West workshop, from earlier on in the year, to Saturday 24th November. The first part of the workshop will be looking at teaching drama and dance using the CLIL method (Content and Language Integrated Learning), which is something that the new Language Strategy is looking to promote in the future. There will also be the opportunity to discuss, plan and collaborate on the new Junior Cycle curriculum as well as share ideas and activities from the conference. You can sign up for the event via the ‘Upcoming Events’ section on our website Register for the workshop

Finally we would like to say a big Thank You to our outgoing president Wilma Selvin for all of her dedication and hard work over the last few years. We are very grateful for all the work that you have done.

On that note we would also like to extend a warm welcome to our new President Kay Macken! As we move forward Wilma will be stepping into the role of vice-president for a year and Kay will lead us into our next adventure.

None of these events happen in isolation and it is largely thanks to fact that many hands make light work. Well done committee members for co-creating a great event. Martha Brazil, Ide Colbert, Isolde Coveney, Rodica Darii, Lucia Ferreiro, Jenny Gordon and Karla MacNamara are continuing on the committee and we are pleased to welcome Gemma Duffy and Meritxell Garcia Ramos to the group. Nicola Cronin continues as our debating advisor and our regional reps are Angela Healey in Kerry and Dearbhla Lynch and Arantxa Lopez in Donegal.

We look forward to seeing you at our next event!
