Our Annual DEBATING LEAGUE for 2017/18 is back!

UPDATE: Our Debating League is under way with 19 schools taking part this year. Best of luck to everyone, especially the teams that will be having their first debate on Wednesday 4th of October. The topic is ‘Esta casa cree que los deportistas famosos ya no son buenos ejemplos a seguir’.

As usual, it is for members only so if you have not renewed your membership for this school year please log in to your ATS account here and go to the ‘Account’ tab and then ‘Membership’ to update your account. If you are new to the ATS you can sign up for an account here. To register a team you can do so in the ‘Upcoming Events’ section of your ATS account.

All debates will take place once again in Castleknock College at 6pm sharp, under the experienced watch of Nicola Cronin. The start date is the 4th of October.

Last year a number of teams were left disappointed because opponents either pulled out at the last minute or did not show up. This is unfair on the students and teacher so please only sign up if you can gurantee your attendance on the dates provided. Places this year will be limited to 24 and registration will be open until the 13th of September or until all 24 spots are filled.

Continuing with the notion of respect, it is important to note that respect for all students taking part is paramount, rude or disrespectful behaviour during the debate such as heckling or comments with an aggressive tone will not be tolerated. Judges have the right to deduct points in such cases. This type of behaviour is not in the spirit of the Spanish debating competition even if it is in other leagues. We wish to promote oral communication and competency with the key being in building the students’ competency.

It is a requirement of taking part that you, the teacher, judges on the same night as your own team so if you want to watch them you need another to arrange someone else to judge in your place.
